Murang’a Woman Arrested With 13 Bags of Bhang Worth Millions
A woman believed to be a significant figure in a drug trafficking ring has been arrested in Murang’a County, thanks to a well-coordinated effort by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU).
According to a statement from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released on Friday, July 18, the woman was taken into custody at her home in Kandara, Murang’a.
This action came after local residents alerted the authorities about some suspicious activities happening at the location.
Responding quickly to the tip-off, ANU detectives carried out a raid that resulted in the confiscation of 13 gunny bags filled with bhang.
“The bhang weighing 225kgs with an estimated street value of Sh6.7 million,” the statement read in part.
Also recovered during the search were packaging materials believed to be used for processing and distributing the narcotics.
“Eunice Wangui Kimani is currently in custody, undergoing processing in preparation for her court appearance. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics have been securely detained as exhibits,” DCI added.
This arrest is part of a broader push by security agencies to take down drug trafficking networks operating throughout the country.
On July 13, detectives in Mombasa arrested a 54-year-old man along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway after stopping a public service vehicle.
When they searched his three bags, officers found 40 sachets of cannabis and a whopping Tsh5,035,000 in Tanzanian currency, along with KSh4,960, which led to his immediate arrest.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that these arrests highlight a troubling trend of increasingly sophisticated cross-border and domestic drug trafficking operations.
Authorities have praised the public for their valuable tips and are encouraging everyone to stay alert.
