Kalombotole Plea Hearing Delayed
The High Court has postponed the plea-taking for the main suspect in two murders that occurred within the wards of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). This decision came after the defense team raised objections to a medical report that deemed the suspect fit to stand trial.
The lawyers for the accused, Kennedy Kalombotole, argued that the report was superficial and lacked important details about when and how the examination took place.
They insisted that the conclusions drawn did not adhere to the necessary medical assessment standards and failed to clarify the methods used to arrive at those findings.
“People on the street have asked me why I represented a mentally unstable person. We are requesting for a further examination,” the court was told
The defense argued that a thorough and detailed mental evaluation should be conducted, emphasizing that the accused needed to be observed multiple times over specific intervals to accurately assess his mental condition.
They also informed the court that both the officers at the remand facility and members of the public had expressed concerns regarding Kalombotole’s mental stability.
In response to these objections, the court announced it would issue a ruling on whether Kalombotole should undergo another mental evaluation. The decision is expected on October 22.
