MC Fullstop Dies
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of renowned reggae and dancehall hypeman MC Fullstop, born John Maina, who lost his long fight against tuberculosis.
The reggae community mourns the loss of this beloved figure, who left us on Friday, August 1. Known for his unique voice and infectious energy, he made a significant mark in the entertainment world over nearly three decades, starting his journey in the early 1990s.
MC Fullstop rose to fame with his reggae mixes, which became a staple in the 2000s, lighting up entertainment venues and playlists alike.
A key player in Kenya’s reggae and dancehall scene, he not only toured across East Africa but also hosted countless events, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of many.
Beyond his electrifying live performances, he was also a well-known media personality, co-hosting hit shows like Riddim Vybz on K24 TV and Reggae Boyz on NRG Radio.
Tragically, MC Fullstop had been fighting a serious illness for several years. In 2021, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), which ultimately led to the complete collapse of his left lung.
He went on to explain that, unlike the liver, which has the ability to regenerate, the lungs don’t have that same capacity for healing. He shared his plans to adapt his lifestyle to cope with living with just one lung.
In 2022, he encountered another hurdle when TB affected his throat, significantly impacting his ability to speak, walk, and run. He even mentioned his intention to step back from the entertainment scene due to his declining health.
Despite undergoing various treatments and receiving tremendous support from fans and fellow entertainers, MC Fullstop sadly passed away, with his long-standing battle with TB believed to be the reason for his passing.
His death has left reggae fans and the broader entertainment community in Kenya heartbroken, with many well-known media figures and reggae enthusiasts sending their heartfelt condolences.
“We mourn the loss of a true Kenyan legend today. Mc Fullstop,” stated radio presenter Maina Kageni.
“RIP to the greatest MC Kenya has ever seen,” said media personality and MC Azeezah Hashim.
“RIP MC Full Stop, the microphone maestro. We shall really miss you,” noted ODM Communications Director Phillip Etale.
