Govt Rolls Out NYOTA
The government has just kicked off applications for the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, a key initiative aimed at creating jobs and training for over 800,000 young Kenyans.
This program will provide successful applicants with a monthly stipend of KSh6,000 while they participate in workplace placements that last between three to six months.
According to the government, the goal of this project is to tackle the rising issue of youth unemployment by offering practical work experience, skill-building opportunities, and mentorship.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 31, the National Employment Authority (NEA) encouraged individuals aged 18 to 29, and up to 35 for those with disabilities, to apply for this program.
To be eligible, applicants should be unemployed youth or those in low-paying jobs, with at least a Form Four education. Young people from all 47 counties are invited to take part.
To get started, young people need to dial *254# on their mobile phones, choose the NYOTA Project option, and just follow the instructions that pop up.
The NEA has urged anyone interested to get their applications in by August 15. They can also head over to their local Youth Development Offices in sub-counties or counties for assistance with the application process.
As per the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the NYOTA Project, which is being rolled out in collaboration with the World Bank, aims to connect young people with vetted employers across different sectors and regions.
Participants will benefit from life skills training, as well as digital and business skills, and they’ll receive a nationally recognized certificate once they complete the program.
Authorities have issued a warning to the public to stay alert for fraudsters, stressing that this program is completely free and no payments are needed at any point.
