Ruto Roasts Gachagua While Praising Kindiki
On Wednesday, February 4, President William Ruto took a playful jab at his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, while showering praise on Kithure Kindiki. Speaking at the UDA Aspirants Forum held at State House, Ruto remarked that DP Kindiki is as hardworking as he was during his time as deputy to the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I was once the Deputy President under Uhuru Kenyatta; the work that this gentleman Kindiki is doing now is the same work I used to do when I was Deputy President,” said Ruto.
The Head of State expressed his satisfaction with having an assistant who truly understands his role and the workings of the government.
President Ruto criticized Gachagua, pointing out that during his time as deputy, he didn’t quite grasp issues the way Kindiki does.
“Today, I am happy that I have a principal assistant who understands his work. Let me ask you, if it were that other person, would he have the brain to understand things the way Kindiki does?” Ruto posed.
The President went on to say that since Kindiki became his assistant, his work has become easier as they now share responsibilities.
“My work has become easier because today I have an assistant who understands government matters; he understands roads, electricity, universal health coverage, education, and even savings. Now we share the work, and I am happy,” Ruto added.
Ruto’s compliments towards Kindiki came after he laid out for UDA hopefuls what the Kenya Kwanza government is doing under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
During the meeting, DP Kindiki pointed out the strides made in areas like education, health, infrastructure, housing, agriculture, and job creation.
Gachagua was President Ruto’s deputy for a two-year term from September 2022 until October 2024.
He faced impeachment by Parliament over allegations that included abuse of office and stirring up ethnic tensions. The Senate upheld the impeachment, resulting in his ousting from office.
After his departure, President Ruto appointed Kindiki, who had previously been in charge of the Interior, as the new Deputy President.
