Kakamega Homeboyz Star Dies
The Kenyan Premier League community is in deep sorrow after the tragic passing of Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Silas Abungana, who reportedly lost his life following a violent altercation stemming from a family dispute.
Reports indicate that Abungana was attacked by his younger brother, who allegedly stabbed him during a disagreement over issues related to his wife.
Family members had been encouraging him to part ways with his wife, whom they considered an unsuitable partner, and this disagreement sadly escalated into violence.
In a statement released by the club on Thursday, February 5, it was confirmed that Silas succumbed to the head injuries he sustained during the attack.
He sadly passed away just before midnight on Wednesday, February 4, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital.
According to the club, Abungana was admitted to the hospital after the attack and was being treated when his condition took a turn for the worse.
Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Abungana, who had recently joined the KPL team from Gucha FC, ultimately passed away, leaving the club and the entire football community in profound sorrow.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of Tuesday, February 3, just a few days after the player had participated in a Premier League match against Mara Sugar FC.
“Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana,” the team confirmed in a statement following the passing of their player who had played just 10 matches since his switch from Gucha FC.
“During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss.
Fans and fellow players took to social media to share their heartfelt condolences and celebrate Silas’ incredible talent and contributions to Kenyan football.
As of the time this was published, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) had yet to release a statement regarding the passing of the Homeboyz midfielder, whose team is currently positioned sixth in the FKF Premier League table.
