Sifuna On Being Gachagua’s Mole
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has brushed off claims that he’s a mole for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 3, the ODM Secretary General confidently stated that he’s far too significant to play that role for anyone.
Sifuna dismissed the allegations as just political games, pointing out that such accusations have always circulated, particularly against ODM members who don’t see eye to eye with certain party stances.
“I’m too important to be anyone’s mole. People should be looking out for Sifuna instead. This whole mole talk in ODM is nothing new; it dates back to the party’s inception. If you disagree with a party position, suddenly you’re labeled a mole,” Sifuna remarked.
The Nairobi senator also mentioned that the rumors about him being a mole seemed to escalate after he attended the funeral of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother, Alice Wangari Gakuya, alongside Gachagua and other leaders.
Sifuna made it clear that nothing would keep him from attending the funeral of a grieving colleague, even if Gachagua was also going to be there.
“I had this conversation ramp up after I bumped into Gachagua at a funeral for a parent of a member of parliament in Nairobi. Here in Nairobi, we’ve always supported one another.
“You’re not going to stop me from being there for a colleague who’s mourning, just because Gachagua is attending,” Sifuna asserted.
Additionally, the ODM secretary general mentioned that he anticipated being labeled a mole, but he’s accustomed to it and ready for whatever comes his way.
This clarification follows a month after businessman Oketch Salah claimed that Raila Odinga had privately expressed concerns about Sifuna working against ODM from the inside.
Salah alleged that Raila had cautioned him about Sifuna’s loyalty to the party, and he claimed that recent events have proven those worries to be valid.
“Another thing he mentioned, which is now unfolding, was about Edwin Sifuna. He said Sifuna was someone else’s dog, and now we can clearly see what he meant,” he stated.
Salah went on to accuse Sifuna of undermining ODM even before Raila’s passing, claiming that the senator had already made up his mind to oppose any potential political deal with President William Ruto, regardless of Raila’s stance.
“Even before Baba’s death, Sifuna publicly declared he wouldn’t support any arrangements with Ruto, even if Raila backed it. His decision was already set, and he’s been playing games within ODM ever since. I have proof on my WhatsApp,” he added.
