15-year-old boy murders 9-year-old girl
A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the murder of Aria Thorpe in Weston-super-Mare. His identity is being protected because of his age. Police say the 9-year-old girl died after suffering a single stab wound. The incident has deeply shaken residents, with many expressing sadness and disbelief as investigations continue and the case proceeds through the courts.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, Aria was attacked on Monday. Emergency services rushed to Lime Close in Weston-super-Mare at 6:09 PM, but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police have shared photos of Aria Thorpe, with her family’s consent. One picture captures her in a cute white sleeveless top, complete with a hairband featuring Minnie Mouse ears. Another image shows her in a lovely pink dress, proudly wearing a rosette and a “happy birthday” headband, all while being surrounded by colorful balloons.
A teenage suspect appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, facing charges related to her murder. During the short hearing, he only spoke to confirm his name, address, and date of birth.
He has been placed in youth detention until a further hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.
Meanwhile, a police cordon remains at the scene as forensic teams continue their work. Flowers and tributes have been laid in memory of Aria.
Superintendent Jen Appleford from Avon and Somerset Police mentioned that the community is in shock and that Aria’s family is receiving support from officers.
“It’s hard to put into words just how traumatic the last 36 hours have been for them, and we want to emphasize their request for privacy during this difficult time,” she stated.
Supt Appleford also noted that police are collaborating with local schools and other organizations to ensure that appropriate support is available.
