ODM MP Calls for End of Visits to Raila Bondo Home
Caleb Amisi, a Member of Parliament, has urged fellow leaders to hold off on visiting the late Raila Odinga’s home in Bondo, Siaya County.
In a statement on Monday, November 10, Amisi emphasized that the family of the former Prime Minister needs some time and space to grieve.
The ODM lawmaker pointed out that politicians can start visiting Raila’s grave and his family again in 2026.
“There’s only so much a person can bear. Maybe it’s time for leaders to allow Mama Ida and her family the peace they need to rest.
“Baba’s mausoleum isn’t going anywhere. We can pay our respects starting next year. My heart goes out to Ida Odinga,” Amisi expressed.
The comments from the Saboti MP come as a wave of visitors, including politicians and various delegations, have been making their way to Bondo to pay their respects to Raila and extend their condolences to his family.
On Thursday, November 6, the Wiper leader brought a group to visit Raila’s gravesite at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where he honored his memory and offered his sympathies to Mama Ida.
This visit follows closely on the heels of Martha Karua, who recently led a group of women leaders to the Odinga family home at Opoda Farm.
Earlier, on October 27, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had also led a delegation from Kisii and Nyamira counties to express their condolences to the family of the late Raila Odinga.
Among the notable figures who have visited the family are retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo, Royal Media Services Chairman SK Macharia, and Mama Margaret Nyokabi, the wife of the late Nderitu Gachagua.
Additionally, doctors who treated Raila in India, along with Arsenal fans from Kenya, have also stopped by his Bondo home to share their condolences.
Raila sadly passed away on Wednesday, October 15, after experiencing a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic treatment center in Kochi, India.
He was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.
Raila was buried with his signature hat and fly whisk, two iconic items that symbolized his image throughout his political career.
