Elderly Woman Killed in Githurai
Detectives are looking into a tragic incident involving a 74-year-old woman who was found dead following a domestic dispute with her husband in Githurai 44, Nairobi.
Monica Wanja’s body was discovered over the weekend, lying in a pool of blood after a fight with her husband, the reasons for which remain unclear.
Neighbors reported hearing a commotion, and when the police arrived, they found her with multiple injuries on her right thigh, left breast, right wrist, chin, and right upper arm.
Authorities also found a bloodied dagger in the house, which they have taken as evidence.
The husband, who is around 75 years old, has been arrested for questioning and potential charges related to the murder.
Monica’s body has been taken to the mortuary, where it will await an autopsy and further procedures.
In another incident in the Donholm area of Nairobi, a middle-aged woman was discovered dead in her home.
The police identified her as Eunice Mwende Mbaluka, who was living alone at the time of her death.
The cause of her death has not yet been determined, and her body has also been moved to the mortuary.
Meanwhile, in Isiolo and Meru counties, two herders were shot and injured during an attack by cattle rustlers, according to police reports.
The victims were quickly taken to the hospital and are currently in stable condition. Security teams responded to the incidents and were able to recover some of the stolen livestock.
Authorities are actively searching for the attackers, with reports indicating that some of the rustlers may have escaped with gunshot wounds.
The government has kicked off a program to tackle this serious issue. Part of the initiative involves a deradicalization process for some of the gunmen, which has led to over 500 various firearms being handed over in certain areas.
For example, Isiolo is one of the regions included in Operation Maliza Uhalifu, which is focused on combating banditry.
Thanks to this operation, crime levels in the area and surrounding counties have been kept in check, despite ongoing challenges.
The operation specifically targets counties like Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Meru, and Isiolo.
In addition to punitive measures, the government is also prioritizing strategic investments and sustainable development as part of its crime control strategy for Kenya’s Northern frontier and the Kerio Valley region.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen emphasized that the long-term goal is to empower local communities to take an active role in fighting against cattle rustling and to engage in constructive nation-building efforts.
