Fire Kills Two Kiharu Kids
A family from Githagara village in Kahuro sub-county, Kiharu, Muranga County, is heartbroken over the tragic loss of their two children, who perished in a fire that engulfed their home.
The children’s mother, Scholastica Wanjiru, shared that the devastating incident took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, while she had stepped out to buy milk at the local shopping center
While speaking at the Murang’a County mortuary, the mother expressed her suspicions of foul play and urged the police to carry out a thorough investigation to determine what caused the devastating fire.
Wanjiru stated that there was nothing in the house that could have sparked a fire, as she had prepared plenty of food earlier in the day for both lunch and dinner using a jiko, which she made sure to put out after cooking.
“I was attracted by screams from people who were battling the flames that consumed my rented house. My daughter’s body was retrieved from the ruins of the house, while my son, who sustained serious burns, was rushed to Muriranjas Level 4 Hospital,” Scolastica said.
Tragically, one of the children, a 2-year-old named Shantel Wangari, lost her life due to severe burns from a fire. Meanwhile, the second child, Eric Muturi, was declared dead after being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized care, seven hours later.
“She was transferred to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital and then to Kenyatta National Hospital, but sadly, he didn’t pull through,” she said, tears streaming down her face.
This heartbreaking incident comes on the heels of another tragedy in Kapsita village, Molo Sub-County, where a Junior Secondary School teacher, Abel Moseti, also lost his life in a late-night house fire.
Moseti was burned beyond recognition when a fierce blaze consumed his home last night.
The fire, which erupted around 1:00 am on October 1, 2025, is currently being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Molo.
Just recently, Moseti had been hired by the government and assigned to teach at Chesingele Junior Secondary, where he was making a difference until this devastating event.
His father, Robert Bichang’a, expressed that the loss is both shocking and incredibly overwhelming.
“He was obedient, hard-working and caring. I felt like I was in a terrible dream when I saw heavy smoke and fire coming out of his house,” said the father of six while holding back his tears
“We tried to break into the house to save him, but a gas cylinder exploded, forcing us to run for safety. Nothing was salvaged from the fire,” Joshua Arama added.
