Mourners Flock to JKIA Early
Preparations are in full swing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as the nation gets ready to welcome the body of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
A military gun carriage has already made its way to the airport, accompanied by members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) military band.
The officers were spotted polishing the tyres of the gun carriage, making sure it shone as brightly as possible for the arrival.
Dressed in their ceremonial uniforms, the military band stood in formation next to the runway, practicing slow, solemn melodies to honor the official reception.
Their discipline and meticulous attention to detail truly reflected the importance of this moment as the country anticipates the return of one of its most revered leaders.
Security measures have been ramped up around JKIA, with numerous police and military checkpoints established along the main routes leading to the airport.
Members of the public have been restricted from accessing the main entrance to avoid any chaos, while those gathered outside the airport are being kept at a distance under the watchful eyes of security personnel.
Crowds have begun to gather outside the perimeter fence, with many people waiting patiently to catch a glimpse of the convoy that will carry the body.
Inside the airport, military officers are putting the final touches on the arrangements for Raila’s arrival. The area around the VIP terminal has been cleared, and a red carpet has been rolled out in anticipation of the official welcome.
Numerous leaders and high-ranking government officials have already made their way to JKIA, eagerly awaiting the body, which is set to land at 9:30 a.m.
Security teams have coordinated their efforts to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch, maintaining the dignity that a state figure deserves.
President William Ruto and Ida Odinga are set to lead the reception when the aircraft carrying the remains arrives. The body will be honored with full military rites before being placed on a gun carriage for transport to Lee Funeral Home, all under tight security.
Military officers will be on duty at JKIA all morning as the country watches one of the most anticipated arrivals in Kenya’s history.
