A heavy and emotional atmosphere has enveloped Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as hundreds of supporters, family members, and leaders gather to receive the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

From the early hours of the morning, crowds began streaming into the airport, many dressed in T-shirts and caps bearing Raila’s name and image. Others carried flags, flowers, and banners expressing messages of love, respect, and farewell to the man who dedicated his life to Kenya’s democracy.

By 7 a.m., the airport surroundings were packed with supporters determined to witness the historic moment, despite the strict security measures put in place by authorities. Police officers and military personnel were stationed at every entry point, screening visitors and maintaining order as the crowd continued to swell.

Tears flowed freely as chants of “Baba! Baba!” echoed across the terminal. Many were seen kneeling in prayer, while others sang liberation songs associated with Raila’s long political journey. The emotional scenes reflected the depth of admiration and affection Kenyans hold for the veteran leader.

Security teams remained alert, coordinating movement and ensuring that official protocol was observed ahead of the arrival. A military band, positioned on the runway, stood ready to perform as part of the national tribute. The disciplined forces maintained a solemn presence, signaling the nation’s collective respect for Raila’s service and sacrifice.

At exactly 9:30 a.m., a Kenya Airways aircraft carrying Raila’s remains touched down at JKIA. Silence fell over the crowd as the plane taxied to a halt. For many present, this was not just the return of a political figure, but the homecoming of a man whose struggle for justice and equality shaped Kenya’s history.

Kenya is not merely receiving a body; the country is welcoming home a legacy—a legacy of resilience, unity, and hope that will live on for generations.
