Dead after antibiotic injection
A family in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, is crying out for justice after their 14-year-old daughter died under unclear circumstances shortly after receiving an injection at a private hospital in Bombolulu on October 7, 2025.
The girl, identified as Muthoni, was a Grade Eight pupil at Twinkle Stars Junior Secondary School. According to her relatives, she had gone to the hospital to seek treatment for a persistent cough — a routine visit that would tragically become her last. Family members say that after being attended to by a medic, she was given what was described as an antibiotic injection.
However, moments after leaving the facility, Muthoni’s condition worsened. While on her way home to Mariakani with her mother, she reportedly began foaming at the mouth and complained of severe chest pain. Alarmed, her family tried to rush her for further medical attention, but she was pronounced dead before reaching another hospital.
Her sudden death has left the community in shock, with residents demanding that authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. “She was healthy when we left home; all she had was a cough,” one of the relatives said tearfully. “We just want to understand what went wrong.”
A post-mortem examination conducted at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital on October 8 failed to establish the exact cause of death. Pathologists have since collected several samples, including foam from her body, which have been forwarded to the government chemist for detailed forensic analysis.
The family is now calling on the Ministry of Health and law enforcement agencies to ensure a transparent investigation. They insist that someone must be held accountable if negligence or malpractice is proven.
Meanwhile, the hospital where Muthoni received the injection has remained tight-lipped, saying it will cooperate with investigators. As the family awaits answers, they continue to mourn a life cut short far too soon — a young girl who had dreams of completing school and building a better future.
