Decomposed Body Found in Maua Thicket
Detectives are looking into a suspected murder case after a man’s body was discovered in a thicket in the Maua area of Meru County.
When police found the body on Friday evening, it had already started to decompose.
The motive behind the murder is still unclear.
Residents reported that they noticed a foul smell, which led them to the scene where the body was found.
The body showed signs of mutilation and had decomposed significantly by the time it was discovered, according to police.
Authorities arrived, took the body to the mortuary, and are now awaiting identification and an autopsy.
In Laare, Meru County, three suspects were arrested after they allegedly beat a man to death, claiming he had stolen bundles of miraa.
Police reported that 21-year-old Dominic Mwongera died after being assaulted by the three suspects and others who are still at large, near a local secondary school on October 3, 2025.
The three suspects are expected to face murder charges, according to police.
Meanwhile, in Kimwarer, Elgeyo Marakwet County, a 70-year-old man was taken into custody after he hacked and killed a 35-year-old man in his home.
The motive behind the murder of Laban Kiptoo remains unclear, according to police.
His body was discovered in his bed long after he had passed away on October 10, 2025, and was subsequently taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
When found, police noted that the body had severe head injuries. At the time of his murder, Laban was living alone.
Authorities tracked down the suspected killer in the vicinity and made an arrest, pending further questioning and potential prosecution.
On Saturday, police returned to the crime scene to search for the weapon used in the murder.
Incidents like this have been increasing in rural areas, often tied to land disputes, as investigations continue to tackle these cases.
Some cases are still awaiting trial in court, while others remain unsolved.
Law enforcement has reported a rise in murder cases, with some linked to love triangles and failed deals.
Alarmingly, as many as eight murder incidents are reported each day, highlighting a troubling trend.
To tackle the rising number of cases, the police have set up a dedicated homicide unit that zeroes in on this troubling trend. They’ve also expanded their operations into various regions and are increasingly using technology to help solve these cases. Officials are calling for more funding to boost their efforts and improve their operations.
