Man Dies Cleaning Tank
A tragic incident unfolded in Kipkelion, Kericho County, where a man lost his life while trying to empty water from an underground tank using a generator.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Ngeno, was one of three workers hired to assist in this task, which was meant to allow the tank owner to clean it. This unfortunate event took place in the Barsiele area on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
According to police reports, Ngeno suffocated inside the tank, while his two companions were fortunate enough to be rescued. The trio had entered the tank with a generator to help pump out the water.
As they worked, the generator continued to run, and it wasn’t long before the tank owner noticed that the men had become unconscious and quickly raised the alarm.
They had inhaled carbon monoxide from the generator, which was slowly suffocating them. Local residents rushed to the scene and managed to save two of the men, but sadly, Ngeno was found unresponsive and pronounced dead.
His body has been taken to the mortuary, awaiting an autopsy, as police confirmed that he died from suffocation.
Carbon monoxide is often referred to as a silent killer. When a generator is running, it emits this deadly gas, which poses a significant risk, especially in enclosed spaces.
Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when the toxic, odorless fumes from burning fuels like wood or charcoal enter the bloodstream, disrupting the oxygen flow in the body.
When inhaled, carbon monoxide binds with hemoglobin in red blood cells, forming carboxyhemoglobin, which prevents the blood from carrying oxygen effectively.
Officials strongly advise against using generators in closed areas or places with inadequate ventilation.
Burning jikos also release carbon monoxide, which is extremely dangerous.
In a separate incident, police reported that the body of an unidentified man was discovered on the Chuka-Meru Highway following his murder on October 8, 2025.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear.
Authorities noted that the victim had severe injuries on the left side of his head, and both hands showed signs of trauma. Notably, his left thumb was missing.
At the scene, officers found a blood-stained panga, which they believe was used in the murder.
The body has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.
In another case, police in Isinya, Kajiado County, are looking into the abduction of a man who was taken just moments after being released by a court.
The man had been in custody on allegations of rape but was released due to insufficient evidence.
Witnesses reported that he was at a local club when two armed men on a motorcycle confronted him and forced him to leave.
The assailants claimed there was no justice in the rape case before taking him away.
Police are actively investigating this incident, as reports of defilement and rape are increasing in the area, despite ongoing efforts to combat these issues.
