Education Officer and Daughter Dies In Fire
A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night in Poiwek village, Kericho county, where a 42-year-old woman named Jackline Cheruiyot and her eight-year-old daughter lost their lives in a devastating house fire.
Cheruiyot, who worked as an education officer in Chemosot Ward, was a well-respected figure in the community, and her untimely passing has left many in shock.
Family members shared that she was a mother of three, with her two other children managing to escape the flames and now facing the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives after this heartbreaking event.
According to Patrick Kiprotich, Jackline’s brother, neighbors rushed to the scene upon hearing the screams, desperately trying to save those trapped inside.
“We managed to open the door to rescue her,” narrated Collins Kipyegon. “However, an explosion of the gas cylinder forced rescuers to flee for their own safety
In a heartbreaking incident in Ngecherok village, a family faced devastating losses when a fire completely engulfed their seven-bedroom home and destroyed two vehicles. Milliot Kerich’s family reported that the damage is estimated to be around KSh5 million, as their house and all their belongings were reduced to ashes. One of the victims, Nixon Kipngeno, shared that the flames spread quickly, taking down the house, vehicles, and even water tanks before anyone could put it out.
Kerich mentioned that the fire wiped out her children’s school books and learning materials, making their already tough situation even harder.
Residents voiced their concerns about what they see as a rise in fire incidents in the area this month, urging local authorities to take action.
In a recent update, Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich shared that detectives are looking into both incidents. He also took the opportunity to remind residents to check that their electrical and gas appliances are safe, helping to avoid any similar tragedies in the future.
