Three Burnt to Death in Bungoma
Residents of Brigadier Market in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, are reeling in shock and sorrow after a tragic late-night fire claimed the lives of three family members on Tuesday night. The devastating blaze, whose cause remains unknown, completely razed down the family’s home, reducing it to ashes and leaving behind a scene of unimaginable destruction.
The victims have been identified as David Busuru, his wife Nancy, and their young grandson, who were all asleep when the fire broke out. Despite frantic efforts by neighbors to rescue them, the flames spread too quickly, making it impossible to save the family in time. The inferno consumed everything in its path, leaving only charred remains of household items and memories that the family and community will never forget.
Speaking to the media, a family representative, James Wanjala, expressed the immense pain and grief that has engulfed the family. “We are deeply pained. Losing three members of the same family at once is unbearable. It is something no one can ever be prepared for,” he said tearfully. Wanjala described the late Busuru as a humble, hardworking man who was dedicated to his family and community.
Local authorities, led by Soysambu Mitua Division Commissioner Solomon Nginai, confirmed the tragic incident. He said that emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save the victims due to the intensity of the flames. “The fire had already engulfed the entire house by the time help arrived. Unfortunately, the three occupants could not make it out alive,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased were later moved to Wamalwa Kijana Hospital mortuary in Trans Nzoia County for postmortem examinations. Nginai assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have already launched a probe, focusing on whether the tragedy could have been caused by an electrical fault, a cooking accident, or foul play.
As investigations continue, residents of Brigadier Market have come together to comfort the grieving family and support them through this difficult time. The area chief has urged locals to remain vigilant and ensure their homes are fitted with proper electrical connections and safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The community is now planning a joint burial for the three victims as relatives and friends struggle to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss that has plunged the quiet market center into mourning.
