Jirongo’s Body taken to Lee
The remains of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo have been transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi following a fatal road accident that claimed his life in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Jirongo, aged 64, died after his vehicle was involved in a devastating head-on collision along the busy Nakuru–Naivasha Highway. The tragic crash occurred at around 3 am in the Karai area, a stretch of the highway that has previously been flagged as a black spot due to frequent accidents.
According to preliminary police investigations, the former legislator was driving a Mercedes-Benz from Nakuru towards Nairobi when the accident happened. Reports indicate that Jirongo’s vehicle veered out of its designated lane and collided head-on with an oncoming truck owned by Climax Company. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving his car badly damaged.
Police officers who responded to the scene stated that Jirongo sustained critical head injuries during the crash. Despite the swift arrival of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of his injuries. No other fatalities were immediately reported, although the incident caused temporary traffic disruption along the highway as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
Following standard procedure, police secured the accident scene and launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Jirongo’s body was first taken to Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary for preservation and documentation before being transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, where it awaits postmortem examination and funeral arrangements.
News of Jirongo’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief from political leaders, family members, and Kenyans across the country. Many have taken to social media to mourn him as a seasoned politician and businessman who played a notable role in Kenya’s political landscape. During his time as Lugari MP, Jirongo was known for his outspoken nature and involvement in national political debates.
The fatal accident once again highlights growing concerns over road safety on major highways, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours. Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to exercise caution, observe lane discipline, and avoid speeding, especially on long-distance routes such as the Nakuru–Naivasha road.
As investigations continue, police are expected to release a comprehensive report detailing the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the family of the late former MP is expected to announce funeral and burial plans in the coming days as Kenyans continue to pay tribute to his life and legacy.
