34-year-old man stabbed to death in Kasarani
A 34-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the Kasarani area of Nairobi following a confrontation at a residential apartment, police have confirmed. The incident has sparked concern among residents as detectives intensify the search for the suspect, who fled immediately after the attack.
The victim, identified as Paul Maina, had visited a woman’s home on Wednesday evening, November 19, to repair faulty speakers. According to police, Maina personally knew the woman and had been assisting her with various small tasks from time to time.
Trouble began just as Maina was leaving the house. The woman’s partner arrived unexpectedly and confronted her, accusing her of being involved with Maina romantically. She, however, insists that their relationship was purely platonic and work-related.
An argument quickly escalated between the couple, prompting Maina to step in and try to diffuse the situation. Witnesses said the confrontation intensified, and in the heat of the moment, the partner allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed Maina multiple times in the chest and abdomen.
Maina was rushed to a nearby hospital by neighbours and emergency responders, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police officers processed the scene and later escorted the woman to the station for questioning. She maintained that her partner’s accusations were unfounded and that Maina had only been helping her with electronics repairs.
Authorities say an active manhunt is underway for the suspect, who disappeared into the night after the stabbing. Maina’s body has been moved to a local mortuary, where it will undergo an autopsy and forensic analysis to aid the ongoing investigation.
Detectives noted that cases of violent confrontations involving couples or acquaintances have been on the rise in Nairobi and other regions. Many incidents stem from suspicion, domestic disputes, or disagreements over property and financial issues. The homicide unit, which handles murder cases nationwide, reports that roughly eight cases are recorded daily, with several still unresolved due to suspects escaping or lack of witnesses.
In a separate incident in Samuru, Gatanga in Murang’a County, police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains found stuffed in a sack and hidden in a thicket. The remains have been taken to a mortuary for post-mortem examination and identification. Investigators say it is still unclear how long the victim has been dead, and inquiries are ongoing.
