A 31-year-old man has been taken into custody at the Aram Police Station after being accused of brutally hacking his 6-year-old nephew to death in Ojelo village, located in Rarieda sub-county. Denis Ouma Nyahinda allegedly attacked Tyron Onyango with a panga, striking him on the head and neck, which resulted in the child’s immediate death.
According to Wycliffe Odiango from the West Asembo location, the young boy had been visiting his grandmother during the holiday season and was playing outside with other children from the neighbourhood.
The group is said to have been enjoying their afternoon when the suspect, who lived nearby, confronted them and told them to quiet down, claiming they were making too much noise.
Witnesses said the children were startled by the man’s sudden aggression, and the boy attempted to walk away before the situation escalated. Community members later reported that the suspect had previously complained about children playing near his home.
He mentioned that the children continued playing despite Ouma having already given her order for them to stop and return home. Moments later, the suspect reportedly emerged from his house armed with a panga, appearing visibly agitated.
He then began chasing the young boy, pursuing him for several metres as the other children ran away in fear. The terrified boy fled toward his grandmother’s house in a desperate attempt to seek safety.
Unfortunately, the suspect caught up with him at the doorstep and allegedly launched a brutal attack, striking him on the head and neck, killing him instantly and leaving the community in shock.
Odiango reported that security personnel were notified before they arrived at the scene and transported the boy’s body to the mortuary at Bondo sub-county hospital for a postmortem examination.
While confirming the tragic event, Chief Odiango stated that the suspect has been arrested and is currently being held at Aram police station as investigations are ongoing.
He also urged the community to find healthier ways to manage their anger to prevent such senseless tragedies from happening.
