Your problem is lying; Kiunjuri slams Ruto
Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has called on President William Ruto to put his words into action, urging him to keep the promises he made to the people of Kenya.
While speaking at the burial service for the late Mzee Kirocho, who was the father of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, in Laikipia County on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Kiunjuri expressed that many Kenyans are becoming increasingly frustrated with what they perceive as the government’s sluggish pace in delivering on its commitments.
Kiunjuri pointed out that President Ruto’s biggest challenge is credibility, emphasizing that citizens are starting to doubt whether the promises made during campaigns and public events will actually be fulfilled.
“Even today, people are promising. Kwanza wewe president vita yako ni kubwa sana. Watu wanasema you are promising but unapiga corner. Kama hawa watu nilikuja kuwasalimia wakasema kwanza wewe uko na promises mingi sana,” Kiunjuri said.
His candid remarks sparked whispers among the mourners, as the lawmaker urged the president to align his administration more closely with the expectations of the people and to ensure that his words match his actions.
When President Ruto took the stage, he sidestepped Kiunjuri’s comments. Instead, he chose to clarify the recent uproar over his decision to sign eight bills into law on the very day that the late Raila Odinga passed away. The President brushed off any speculation regarding the timing of the signing, insisting it was merely a coincidence linked to his official responsibilities.
“Ohhh Rais ali sign… hii sheria ilikueko amendment ilianza 2024, amendment ilifanywa na bunge. Niliamka on Wednesday kwa sababu hiyo ndio ilikuwa kazi yangu siku hiyo. Bahati mbaya tulipoteza ndugu yetu Raila siku hiyo,” Ruto said.
He went on to explain that signing the bills was just a routine administrative duty that had been in the works for quite some time.
“I was on duty like any other citizen. Hakuna kitu ya kuficha. Tuwachane na porojo. Let us speak what is right na Kenya itasonga mbele,” the President added.
Ruto also called on Kenyans to prioritize unity and truth over divisive politics, emphasizing that his administration is dedicated to fostering development and ensuring national stability.
The event, which saw the presence of senior government officials and political leaders, was both somber and charged with political tension, with Kiunjuri’s remarks emerging as one of the rare open challenges aimed at the President during this period of mourning.
