Man, son killed in grenade explosion
A family is in mourning after a tragic incident on Wednesday, where two lives were lost due to a grenade explosion in the Karare area of Saku Constituency, Marsabit County.
The victims, a father and his son, were in their home when the grenade detonated in the afternoon, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that the two were trying to dismantle the grenade when it exploded, causing significant damage to their house as well.
It appears they were unaware of the serious risks associated with the explosive.
Police are collaborating with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to investigate the incident further.
Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo has warned residents to avoid handling any suspicious devices that look like explosives, including grenades.
He urged anyone who encounters such items to promptly notify the police or relevant security agencies.
The origin of the grenade remains unclear, but it is suspected that the victims may have found it in a nearby field.
A team is currently analyzing the scene as part of the investigation. The bodies have been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and other necessary procedures.
Explosives like this are not uncommon in the area, often linked to government training activities.
In a separate incident, a senior police officer was attacked and scalded with hot water in his home in Likoni, Mombasa County.
An inspector with the DCI Koloa in Baringo County was on leave, spending time with his family in Likoni when a heated argument erupted between him and his wife.
According to the police, the wife attacked him with hot water, resulting in serious facial injuries. After the incident on Tuesday, she fled the scene.
Authorities were notified after the fact, and the officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
On Wednesday, Coast police chief Ali Nuno reported that efforts to locate the suspect for questioning were still underway. A team of officers who visited the victim in the hospital confirmed that he was in stable condition, although the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear.
Unfortunately, domestic disputes like this have been increasing in various regions of the country, with calls for couples to resolve their issues peacefully. Police statistics indicate that some of these conflicts can end tragically, sometimes resulting in fatalities.
This has affected families negatively.
A team of detectives is rushing to solve the cases reported so far, police said, as they urged parties to try to solve their differences amicably.
