Raila causing chaos in parliament
The atmosphere was thick with emotion as thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga. Many had arrived early in the morning, some carrying flowers, others draped in flags bearing Raila’s image, determined to catch one last glimpse of the man who had shaped Kenya’s political landscape for decades.
However, what was meant to be a solemn moment of reflection quickly turned tense. Due to mounting security concerns and logistical challenges surrounding crowd management, organizers were forced to make a last-minute change to the program. The much-anticipated public viewing, which had been scheduled to take place at Parliament Buildings, was abruptly cancelled. Instead, authorities announced that the body would be moved to Kasarani Stadium, a larger venue that could accommodate the massive turnout of mourners.
The unexpected shift created confusion and frustration among those who had gathered outside Parliament. Emotions ran high as people demanded to know why they were being turned away. In an effort to calm the situation, several lawmakers, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, tried to address the crowd.
Their attempts to pacify the mourners were met with mixed reactions. Some sections of the crowd cheered, while others shouted over them, insisting that the body should remain at Parliament as earlier planned.
“Raila was not just a man — he was a movement,” Senator Olekina declared passionately. “Parliament has proven too small for the people who loved him. That’s why we’re asking everyone to head to Kasarani, where all can pay their respects in peace.”
In a dramatic show of solidarity, Babu Owino and Otiende Amollo climbed over the Parliament fence, urging the restless crowd to remain calm and proceed to Kasarani. Despite the chaos and confusion, the mood remained one of deep grief and admiration — a testament to the enduring influence of Raila Odinga and the powerful legacy he leaves behind.
