Nyeri Man Kills Wife
Police in Nyeri are on the hunt for a 40-year-old man suspected of murdering his wife, Margaret Nyawira, on Friday night. After the tragic incident, he reportedly locked her body, along with their three children, inside their small one-room rented house in Ngangarithi Estate, located on the outskirts of Nyeri town.
According to Lawrence Kamuri, the brother of the person of interest, Joseph Kariuki (the one accused), called him on Friday morning. He urged Kamuri to come over to his house with some police officers, admitting that he had done something terrible.
Kamuri mentioned that when he got there, he found the children awake. When he asked them where their mother was, they told him she was still asleep.
“When I went to the place where my brother was staying, I heard the children playing. When I opened the door, I asked them where their mother was, and they told me she was still sleeping,” Kamuri said.
He mentioned that he tried to wake her up, but she didn’t respond, so they decided to call the police.
Kamuri also shared that his brother had been acting strangely lately and even questioned his own mental health.
“Sometimes I used to question his behaviour, because there were instances when we walked together and he would accuse his wife of speaking to or being admired by strangers,” he added.
Martin Ndung’u, the uncle of the deceased, shared that the couple frequently had domestic disagreements, which they had reported to the authorities multiple times, but no changes were seen or observed.
Now, family members are calling on the police to ramp up their search for a person of interest, as they believe he poses a threat to their family. He was last spotted in Mukurwe-ini Constituency, in their home village of Muthuthi-ini, where he originally comes from.
