4 Lynched in Machakos, Nyamira
At least four suspects were tragically found dead after being lynched by mobs who accused them of theft in different areas of Machakos and Nyamira Counties.
Authorities have launched a murder investigation into these incidents. They have also issued a warning that anyone involved in the violent attacks on the suspects will face serious murder charges.
The first incident took place in the Mlolongo area of Machakos County, where a mob stoned two suspects to death.
According to the police, they received a call about two individuals being attacked by a mob over theft allegations and quickly rushed to the scene on October 9, 2025.
However, the mob scattered as soon as they saw the police approaching.
When the officers arrived, they discovered that the two men had sustained severe head injuries and immediately took them to the hospital, where they were sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
The bodies have been transferred to the mortuary for identification and an autopsy, as reported by the police.
In Kebirigo, Nyamira County, two men were also stoned to death in Kianyabongere village after being accused of vandalizing Kenya Power cables.
The victims were identified as 25-year-old Jones Osoro and 35-year-old Fred Matasi.
After being stoned, their bodies were set on fire, according to police reports.
Authorities stated that the two men were accused of damaging power cables intended for the Last Mile Power Connectivity project in the area.
Various cables were discovered at the scene, police added.
The bodies have been taken to the mortuary while they await an autopsy and further investigation.
Authorities are urging against mob lynching, emphasizing the importance of surrendering suspects to the police for proper handling and potential prosecution.
Unfortunately, incidents of mob lynching have been increasing, even as efforts are made to tackle this serious issue.
The police are actively investigating all reported cases, aiming to bring murder charges against the suspects as part of their strategy to curb this troubling trend.
Some experts believe these incidents stem from a widespread perception that law enforcement is not doing enough in both rural and urban communities.
In the past, individuals caught in such acts have faced murder charges.
In a separate incident in Cherengany, Trans Nzoia County, a 32-year-old man named Amos Kipruto was discovered dead beneath a tree.
He had been attacked by locals who accused him of theft, specifically for allegedly stealing three sacks of maize from his uncle.
After the incident, he returned home and went to sleep, but a relative later moved him outside to enjoy the sun on October 9, 2025. Unfortunately, he was placed under a tree where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The police were notified and transported the body to the mortuary for an autopsy and other necessary procedures.
Authorities have stated that they are continuing their search for the individuals responsible for this attack.
