Bomet Woman Kills Lover Over Phone
A tragic incident has left residents of Samoget village in Bomet East Sub-county in shock after a 25-year-old woman allegedly killed her boyfriend following a disagreement over a mobile phone.
According to Bomet East Sub-county Police Commander Michael Singa, the suspect, identified as Faith Cherono, went to her boyfriend’s home on Tuesday afternoon to demand the return of a mobile phone she claimed belonged to her. The boyfriend, Emanuel Kiprono, aged 33, reportedly refused to hand over the device, sparking a heated argument between the two.
The disagreement seemed to cool down after a while, and the couple agreed to settle the matter later in the day. Witnesses told police that they later saw the pair walking together towards the nearby Mau Forest area, apparently to continue their conversation in private.
However, the situation turned violent when Cherono allegedly attacked Kiprono with a sword, striking him at the back of the head. The blow is said to have been fatal, leaving Kiprono lifeless at the scene.
After the gruesome attack, Cherono reportedly fled from Bomet County and crossed into neighboring Narok County, where she later surrendered herself to officers at Tendwet Police Station. The motive behind her decision to confess remains unclear, but police say she appeared remorseful and cooperative when she turned herself in.
Officers who visited the crime scene found Kiprono’s body lying in a pool of blood, with a deep cut wound to the back of the head. The body was later moved to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.
Police Commander Singa confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. Detectives are expected to present her in court once the post-mortem and forensic reports are finalized.
The shocking event has sparked discussions among locals about the growing number of domestic disputes turning violent. Community elders have urged young couples to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts instead of resorting to aggression.
“This incident has deeply saddened our community. We urge couples to talk through their differences and seek help before it escalates to tragedy,” one resident said.
Police have assured residents that justice will be served once investigations are complete.
