Tragedy at Kayole School
A tragic accident struck the Emmanuel New Life Learning Centre in Kayole on Monday afternoon, leaving two young pupils dead and two others critically injured after debris from a nearby construction site collapsed onto the school compound. The heartbreaking incident occurred at around 12:45 p.m., just as the students were enjoying their lunch break.
According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, a section of stones and building materials from an adjacent construction site came crashing down unexpectedly. The debris fell directly onto the area where several PP2 pupils were washing their hands, instantly turning a normal school day into a scene of chaos and devastation.
Teachers and school staff rushed to rescue the children while other pupils screamed in panic. The four injured students were quickly taken to Uwezo Clinic for first aid before being transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for specialized treatment. Sadly, two of the children were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the remaining two are currently admitted in critical condition.
The tragedy has sparked outrage and sorrow among parents and residents of Kayole, who are demanding answers from both the school administration and the authorities responsible for construction oversight. Many parents questioned how a building site could be allowed to operate so close to a school without adequate safety barriers or protective measures in place.
Police have since launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to establish whether the construction site met all safety and regulatory requirements. Preliminary reports suggest that the site may not have implemented proper containment measures to prevent falling debris.
Local leaders and education officials have visited the scene to console affected families and assure the community that justice will be served. They have also promised to review construction regulations near learning institutions to prevent such avoidable disasters in the future.
Meanwhile, grief has engulfed the Emmanuel New Life Learning Centre, with teachers and classmates mourning the sudden loss of their young friends.
Residents of Kayole are now calling on Nairobi County authorities to enforce stricter building and safety standards, emphasizing that no development project should ever compromise the lives of innocent children.
