Justice Sought After Mbobu Killing
Renowned lawyer Kyalo Mbobu tragically lost his life due to excessive bleeding and severe injuries after being shot eight times, as revealed by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.
During a press briefing on Thursday, September 11, following the completion of the postmortem examination on Mbobu, Oduor disclosed the cause of death in an incident that has left the nation in shock.
He also mentioned that the pathologists had retrieved two bullets from Mbobu’s body, while police had previously indicated that some spent cartridges were missing from the scene in Mbobu’s vehicle.
Mbobu was fatally attacked by unknown assailants in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday, September 9, while he was on his way home in the Galleria Brookside area of Karen. At the time of the shooting, he was navigating through Magadi Road.
In a report released by the police following the incident, authorities revealed that they had recovered three spent cartridges. Preliminary investigations indicated that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, resulting in his immediate death.
Before his tragic end, Mbobu was said to have met with some unknown individuals at a hotel in the city. After that, he left the hotel to attend another meeting in the Central Business District (CBD), but he took a detour onto Lang’ata Road on his way home.
As for the shooting, reports suggest it happened during a traffic jam on Magadi Road, where the assailants seized the moment to fatally shoot him.
His death ignited outrage from the Law Society of Kenya, which called for justice even after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced it was launching an inquiry into his death.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo condemned the murder as a brutal and premeditated act, highlighting the perilous environment that legal professionals face in the country.
The Society’s calls for justice were echoed by Mbobu’s family, who demanded prompt investigations and answers about who wanted their loved one dead. They described Mbobu as the family’s cornerstone, emphasizing that his death was a devastating loss for his 12 siblings.
Fast forward to today, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen spoke on the issue, sharing that significant strides had been made in the investigation into the murder.
Murkomen mentioned that persons of interest had already been identified and were currently being questioned by the police. He also noted that DCI officers were working to identify more individuals connected to the incident that occurred on Tuesday evening.
According to the CS, several witnesses had stepped forward to share information, and detectives were busy piecing together the details.
“We have been in touch with the DCI since this thing happened, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified,” Murkomen revealed.
Adding that, “Those persons of interest are being interrogated, and so many others are going to be sought. We thank the eyewitnesses who have already come out who were at the scene, and many others who are giving information to the DCI.”
Murkomen reassured Kenyans that a thorough investigation would be conducted quickly. He also encouraged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch with their local police station.
