Student shot dead in Kitale
Police in Kitale are looking into a troubling incident where a student from Kitale National Polytechnic was shot and seriously injured during a confrontation with a gunman in the Kibomet area of Trans Nzoia County.
A police officer from the Kitale Police Station has been arrested and is currently in custody in connection with the shooting, awaiting arraignment.
According to reports from the police, witnesses were able to identify the suspect during an identification parade held at the station on Thursday.
These witnesses recognized him as the individual who shot the student.
The incident took place around dawn on October 22, 2025, at the Norec Shopping Centre, where the victim and his friends were enjoying a game of pool.
Witnesses informed the police that a dispute erupted between the student and a man who was later identified as a police officer.
The suspect reportedly pulled out his firearm and shot the student at close range before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Responding officers found two spent 9mm cartridges and one bullet head outside a pool table shop.
They also discovered bloodstains at the scene, confirming that the shooting had indeed occurred there.
The student was quickly taken to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition due to a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what sparked the altercation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have stepped in to investigate whether the firearm involved in the incident was issued by the government.
In another part of Mombasa County, a woman is recovering from injuries after she was reportedly pushed off the first floor of an apartment building in Jomvu.
According to the police, the woman stated that she had a domestic dispute with her husband, which escalated when he became violent and pushed her from the balcony around 1 a.m. on October 22.
She suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where she is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment. The police are actively searching for her husband to question him about the incident.
In a different case, police in Nairobi are looking into the death of a man who was struck by a train along the Ruiru–Nairobi railway line in the Industrial Area.
His body was discovered on the tracks hours after the incident on Wednesday.
Authorities mentioned that initial investigations suggest he was trying to cross the tracks when the train hit him.
Kenya Railways officials have pointed out that such accidents often result from pedestrians using unauthorized crossing points.
The body has been transported to the city mortuary for identification and a postmortem examination.
