Former Gatundu MP Moses Kuria has declared his ambition to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

In a post on Sunday, October 12, Kuria committed to turning the city into a shining example of cleanliness and efficiency, echoing President William Ruto’s comments about the current state of Nairobi.

“Dear President William Ruto. Today you spoke to my heart. Like Prime Minister Baba Raila Amolo Odinga has told me countless times, Nairobi cannot continue to be the city of filth, garbage, and incompetence.

“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi,” he wrote.

Earlier on Sunday, Ruto shared that he had been in talks with the Nairobi County leadership, including Governor Johnson Sakaja, about their plans to clean up the city and bring back its dignity.

He mentioned that the national government has agreed to team up with the Nairobi County Government for the cleanup initiative, and he pointed out that the private sector will also play a role in supporting these transformation efforts.

“Nairobi cannot continue to be a city in filth. We have started cleaning the Nairobi river, and now we are in the final stages of signing an agreement with the private sector on how we are going to clean this city.

“We must not have mud along our roads. This city will have streetlights so that we make sure that Nairobi is clean, becomes motorable, and a city in the light, not in darkness. I have committed that the national government will provide resources,” he said.

Over the weekend, on Saturday, October 11, Kuria hinted that he might be leaning towards the camp of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He sees Gachagua as the emerging leader of Mt Kenya, pointing out that the DCP leader has done a great job of uniting the region behind him.

Kuria mentioned that he might consider joining forces with the former deputy president’s camp in the near future

“To my brother Rigathi Gachagua. I am an honest man. By now you know that. It is an undeniable fact that the majority of our Mt Kenya people listen to you. You are ahead of the rest of us. You are edging closer to being our undisputed Kingpin in the Mountain. In fact, just like Gideon Moi and William Ruto are working together, I might consider working with you very soon,” he said.

Kuria pointed out that Gachagua was undermining the progress he had made in shaping his political image by hurling insults at his opponents. He advised him to hold back from attacking others, particularly female politicians, emphasizing that his current position calls for a level of restraint and political maturity.

“I have only one humble request. Kindly refrain from insulting our leaders in general, our women leaders in particular, and all Mt Kenya women by extension. Doesn’t really sound commensurate with your undisputed kingpin status. Kindly sir. With profound respect!” he added.
