William Ruto Meets Gachagua
President William Ruto on Tuesday held a series of high-level meetings and engagements at State House, Nairobi, underscoring his administration’s focus on national development, diplomacy, and the strengthening of urban trade infrastructure.
One of the key engagements of the day was a consultative meeting with Members of Parliament from the Mt Kenya region, particularly leaders representing Nyandarua County. The discussions centered on the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda and how ongoing and planned projects are expected to transform lives at the grassroots level.
President Ruto noted that Nyandarua County is firmly aligned with the government’s transformation vision, with several flagship projects already underway. He highlighted the rollout of affordable housing programmes across different constituencies, describing them as a major step towards addressing housing shortages while creating employment opportunities for local residents.
In addition, the government is constructing modern markets in Kwa Haraka, Miharati, and Ndaragwa to boost small-scale trade, improve working conditions for traders, and enhance local economic growth. The president said the new markets are designed to support orderly trade and unlock value for farmers and small business owners.
Healthcare was also a key focus of the discussions. Ruto revealed that plans are in progress to upgrade and expand the JM Kariuki Referral Hospital in Ol Kalou. He stated that the improvements will strengthen healthcare service delivery in the county and reduce the need for residents to seek specialized treatment outside the region.
The president further emphasized the importance of higher education in supporting long-term development, noting that investment in education is critical to producing skilled manpower capable of driving economic growth.
Among the leaders present at the meeting were Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau and Members of Parliament Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop), Njuguna Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), George Gachagua (Ndaragwa), and Michael Muchira (Oljororok).
Earlier in the day, President Ruto also met with a group of Kenya’s ambassadors and high commissioners before officially dispatching them to their respective diplomatic postings abroad. He charged the envoys with advancing Kenya’s national interests, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting economic diplomacy.
Ruto said the diplomats’ mission will be results-driven, focusing on attracting trade, investment, and partnerships that create jobs for Kenyan youth and accelerate the country’s journey toward shared prosperity and a first-world economy.
