Three Children Poisoned By The Mother
A woman has gone into hiding after allegedly poisoning her three children to death in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
According to Athi River East Sub-county Police Commander Anderson Mbae, the tragic incident took place at an unknown time on Sunday night in the Phase Three Estate area, just outside Mlolongo Township.
Mbae explained that the situation was reported to the Mlolongo Police Station several hours later on Monday, classified as a murder case.
“The caretaker of the rental house where the woman lived informed the police. She mentioned receiving a text from the suspect, telling her to check out a ‘wonder’ inside the house and that the woman had already fled. It was clear she was aware something terrible had happened,” Mbae shared with The Star over the phone on Monday.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the suspect’s three children lying lifeless inside the home, with foam coming from their mouths
The police chief reported that among the deceased were one-year-old twin sisters found lifeless on a bed, along with a four-year-old boy discovered in a baby cot.
“It’s believed that the suspect used a mixture of Vim detergent to poison them,” Mbae stated.
The bodies have been taken to the City Mortuary, where they are awaiting an autopsy.
As of the latest update, the suspect remains at large.
Mbae mentioned that the police are actively pursuing her.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Mlolongo Police Station are currently investigating the incident.
The police chief urged residents to refrain from taking drastic actions against their children.
He emphasized that Kenyans should never resort to taking the law into their own hands, regardless of the circumstances.
Mbae urged the community, particularly mothers with children who are facing tough times, to reach out for support from the appropriate authorities. He emphasized that they should never resort to harming or abandoning their kids.
He also mentioned that the suspect would be taken to court to face murder charges as soon as they are apprehended. Authorities said investigations are ongoing, with officers working around the clock to track down the suspect and gather crucial evidence related to the case.
Police urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by sharing any information that may assist in the arrest.
Officials further assured the victim’s family and the public that justice will be pursued without delay, adding that no individual involved in the crime will be spared once the suspect is brought before a court of law.
