All Day Schools Free!
Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has officially eliminated the Ksh1000 fee that was charged per term for all day schools in the constituency.
In a statement released on the evening of Monday, January 19, Wamumbi declared that education in day schools in Mathira will now be completely free.
The UDA MP shared that this decision is intended to lighten the financial load for parents in the area and to ensure that every child has access to education.
“I’m excited to announce that, as part of the Wamumbi Masomo Kwa Wote Programme, all day schools in Mathira will now be tuition-free, with the Ksh1000 term fee being abolished.
“This initiative is designed to alleviate the financial strain on parents and to guarantee that no child is left behind due to financial constraints,” Wamumbi stated.
The Mathira lawmaker expressed that this initiative is part of his vision to foster fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all students in the constituency.
“This decision aligns with a larger goal of ensuring fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunity for every learner in Mathira,” Wamumbi noted.
This announcement follows Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro’s launch of the 2026 edition of the Masomo Bora program just a week ago, which aims to support students in all 65 day secondary schools within the constituency.
In a statement released on January 13, Nyoro mentioned that starting this term, school fees for all day secondary school students, including those in senior secondary schools, will be set at Ksh500 per term.
Additionally, Nyoro revealed that students will receive daily meals, with chapati being served on the last Friday of each month.
“School fees for all Day Secondary School learners will be Ksh500 per term starting this 1st term of 2026.”
“All students will be served lunch at school every day, including Saturdays. For three days, they’ll have githeri, and for the other three days, rice. Uji will be provided for the ‘tea’ break, and every last Friday of the month, chapati will be on the lunch menu,” Nyoro stated.
He also shared that the Kiharu NG-CDF is set to allocate an extra Ksh10 million for revision materials, which adds to the Ksh20 million that was provided earlier.
“We’re adding Ksh10 million for revision materials this financial year, on top of the Ksh20 million that was allocated in previous years,” he mentioned.
In addition to learning materials, over Ksh50 million will be directed towards improving school infrastructure, especially focusing on laboratories.
“More than Ksh50 million will be set aside for enhancing infrastructure, with a special emphasis on laboratories. We’ve been increasing support since the program began,” Nyoro added.
