Love Affair Ends in Bloodshed
A 31-year-old man has surrendered himself to police after allegedly killing his girlfriend in Sigowet Sub-County, Kericho County, in a tragic incident that has shocked local residents.
According to a police report filed at Sondu Police Station, the suspect walked into Kericho Police Station at around 11:15 p.m. on December 16 and calmly informed officers that he had killed his 25-year-old girlfriend at his residence in Kalygowet village. Police immediately alerted detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who accompanied officers to the scene.
Upon arrival, the officers found the house locked from the outside. With no response from inside, they were forced to break in. Inside the single-room house, police made a grim discovery. The body of a young woman was found lying on a sofa, with a scarf tightly tied around her neck. Preliminary observations by officers indicated clear signs of strangulation, pointing to a violent struggle before her death.
The victim was later identified as a woman from Kaborok area in Belgut Sub-County. According to the police report, she had traveled to visit the suspect only three days before the incident. Neighbours told investigators that they had not heard any disturbance from the house on the day of the killing, raising questions about what may have happened inside before the suspect decided to surrender.
Police said the suspect did not resist arrest and was taken into custody at Kericho Police Station, where he is currently being held. His motives for the alleged killing remain unclear, and detectives are working to piece together the events leading up to the woman’s death.
The body was removed from the house and taken to a local mortuary, where it is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Authorities say the results will play a key role in strengthening the investigation.
DCI officers based in Soin Sigowet have taken over the case and are continuing with investigations. Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about rising cases of domestic violence in the region, with residents calling for stronger community intervention and support systems to prevent such deadly outcomes in the future.
