Jubilee Unveils Matiang’i for President
The Jubilee Party has officially thrown its support behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as their presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 General Election.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 30, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni shared that this decision came during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where members unanimously backed Matiang’i’s candidacy.
Kioni also revealed that the party has appointed Matiang’i as the Deputy Party Leader.
“We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag. We have also appointed Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,” he said.
According to Kioni, the NEC meeting also focused on internal restructuring and strengthening the party’s grassroots machinery ahead of the polls.
“We were able to deal with key issues of structure and strategy that we want to take as a party. We now move out to revamp our party, open branches, and reach out to our members and new members,” he added.
The latest news comes just two weeks after Matiang’i pushed back against critics who were trying to tie him to President William Ruto.
While speaking in Tigania, Tharaka Nithi County, on Saturday, October 11, he firmly dismissed those claims, making it clear that he has no interest in being part of the current administration, which he accused of mismanaging the country.
Matiang’i pointed fingers at bloggers and certain media outlets for spreading false information, reiterating his intention to challenge Ruto and bring about the necessary reforms for Kenya.
“I am angry sometimes when I see this nonsensical propaganda that I am going to work with Ruto. How can I work with them? I know these people, more than how you know them,” he said.
Matiang’i didn’t hold back in accusing Ruto of mismanaging the country and relying on superficial public relations to mask the shortcomings of his administration.
He vowed to revitalize the nation and bring back programs that he claimed were beneficial to the people before they were disrupted by the current government.
One such initiative is the Linda Mama program, which Matiang’i promised to fully restore, just as it was under former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
“This is a government of blogging and bribery. Their medical cover is not working. Money is being misappropriated, and Kenyans are not getting services.
“Leading the country has become a burden for Kenya Kwanza. Their biggest project is theft, and paying bloggers to spin on who is working with whom, and then bribing the citizenry in the name of economic empowerment,” he said.
