CEO dies after jumping from KRA offices
A somber mood engulfed Kisumu on Thursday after a middle-aged man reportedly jumped to his death from the second floor of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) offices housed within the Lake Basin Mall.
According to an official statement released by KRA, the man sustained critical injuries after the fall and was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The authority confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, relatives, and friends.
“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) wishes to confirm that an unfortunate incident occurred today, Thursday, 30th October 2025, at the KRA offices located at the Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu. A middle-aged man jumped from the second floor of the building, sustained serious injuries, and succumbed,” the statement partly read.
KRA further disclosed that the incident has been officially reported to the relevant authorities, and investigations are currently in progress to determine what could have prompted the man to take such a drastic step. The agency noted that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement officers to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated.
“The Authority is working closely with the police to support the ongoing investigations,” KRA added.
Although the motive behind the man’s actions remains unknown, KRA has urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could interfere with the investigation process. The authority also encouraged Kenyans to report any safety concerns, suspicious behavior, or distress cases through the nearest Tax Service Office or via the KRA iWhistle platform.
The incident has left many residents of Kisumu in shock, particularly traders and visitors who frequent the Lake Basin Mall. Several eyewitnesses expressed sadness, describing the tragedy as deeply disturbing and unexpected.
