ODM Shifts Anniversary Plans
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has decided to push back its much-anticipated 20th anniversary celebrations, which were originally scheduled to happen in Mombasa County from October 10th to 12th, 2025.
In a statement shared on Friday, October 3, Junet Mohammed revealed that the main festivities in Mombasa have been rescheduled after a consultative meeting with party leader Raila Odinga.
After giving it some thought, the party leader agreed to the requests from various counties that hadn’t yet been included in the ongoing anniversary events.
“After careful consideration, the Party Leader graciously agreed to our request to expand the program and ensure inclusivity by engaging with more counties before converging in Mombasa for the grand celebrations,” the statement read.
Mohammed shared that the delay would give the party a chance to engage in activities across various counties leading up to the main event.
The updated schedule includes ODM hosting a soccer tournament on October 9th and 10th, followed by visits to Kajiado County on October 15th, Turkana County on October 26th, Kilifi County’s Magarini constituency on November 2nd, and Nairobi County on November 9th.
All these activities will lead up to the grand celebrations in Mombasa, now set for November 14th to 16th, 2025.
Mohammed pointed out that this postponement aims to enhance outreach and foster greater inclusivity within the party’s key areas.
“We wish to assure our members, supporters, and the general public that the postponement is meant to strengthen our outreach, deepen inclusivity, and ensure that this milestone in our party’s history is celebrated by all Kenyans, in line with our values of unity, democracy, and participation,” he stated.
The ODM@20 celebrations have been in the works for months, with a lot of effort going into what the party is calling a historic commemoration.
In a press release from September 19, 2025, the party’s National Executive Committee, led by National Chairperson Governor Gladys Wanga, gathered in Nairobi to go over the plans for the upcoming festivities.
The NEC has put together an exciting lineup of activities for the official celebrations taking place in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.
The plan featured an exciting four-team knockout football tournament showcasing some of Kenya’s most legendary clubs: AFC Leopards SC, Bandari FC, Gor Mahia FC, and Shabana FC. This tournament aimed to unite football fans and party supporters in a celebration of sport and togetherness.
But it wasn’t just about the games; the party also organized a Youth Summit to gather young leaders from all over the country, acknowledging the vital role that youth play in shaping the future of the movement.
Additionally, a Women’s Convention was part of the agenda, focusing on the significant contributions of women in the fight for democracy and social justice.
The program also included a PwD Breakfast, which emphasized inclusion and empowerment, showcasing the party’s dedication to keeping persons with disabilities at the forefront of national discussions.
As the preparations ramped up, the party announced a delegate registration notice on September 23, 2025, stating that it would accommodate selected participants from all 290 constituencies. However, they also encouraged other party members who wanted to join the festivities at their own expense to register through the party’s online portal.
The registration portal was opened with a deadline of Monday, 29th September 2025.
